Cultural Ambassadors
The Odessa Museum of Modern Art’s archive contains photo, audio, and video documentation, as well as archival texts and interviews, that reflect the development of contemporary art in the city, starting from the 1960s.
Why does the community exist?
Our main goal is to develop contemporary art in Odessa and make it visible in Ukraine and the world. We sincerely believe that this is a successful starting point for shaping the cultural code of the future of the entire country. We aim to create a strong community of successful business people with a broad worldview and an understanding of the role of culture in societal development.
How does the community support the development of contemporary art?
In 2021, the “Cultural Ambassadors” established an annual scholarship for young artists in Odessa and allocated funds for the realization of a project (exhibition at the National Art Museum of Ukraine + printed catalog) dedicated to the Odessa avant-garde artist Oleg Sokolov (1919 – 1990).
Why become
a Cultural Ambassador?
Being a Cultural Ambassador is an honorary title that emphasizes the status of participants not only as successful business people but also as intellectuals with a broad worldview.
The community primarily brings together like-minded individuals who share the same values. We consider culture to be one of the main driving forces behind the development of a civilized society. We understand the importance of preserving cultural heritage as well as supporting new and contemporary art. Being a Cultural Ambassador means getting acquainted with and supporting connections with the most interesting people in the city and the country.
Once a month, special closed events will be held for Cultural Ambassadors: film screenings with a film critic, meetings with outstanding leaders, diplomats, and experts from various fields, as well as introductions to representatives of Odessa’s contemporary music and art scene. The presentation and discussion of the community’s achievements will take place at the annual gala evening.
How to join?
Becoming a Cultural Ambassador is open to individuals or organizations that share the community’s values and can contribute a monthly donation of 10,000 Ukrainian hryvnias towards the development of contemporary art in Odessa.
New community members are considered based on recommendations from existing Ambassadors, and decisions are made collegially. When accepting new members, the alignment of their values and perspectives with the community’s values is evaluated, along with the candidate’s societal reputation.
