The archive of the Odessa Museum of Contemporary Art contains photo, audio, and video documentation, as well as archival texts and interviews that reflect the development process of contemporary art in the city, starting from the 1960s.
About Us
Of particular value within the museum archive are materials related to the artistic scene of the 1980s and 1990s—a remarkably rich period in the history of art in Odessa. This era was marked by the emergence of video art, the development of performance and conceptual art, the establishment of the first contemporary art institutions in Ukraine, and active curatorial and art-critical activities.
To date, the archive team has digitized over 2500 photo, audio, video documents, and textual materials. In order to provide convenient access to these documents, we have created the online project art(co)archive, which is gradually being populated with unique materials. Additionally, the project is based on collaboration with various institutions, individual artists, and private collectors who grant permission for the research and publication of their archives and collections on the platform.
We believe that creating a maximally open and reliable database will contribute to the emergence of critical and analytical materials within the artistic community, and the user-friendly web platform of the website will help attract the attention of a wider audience.
Currently, the online archive art(co)archive is undergoing reconstruction to ensure a convenient interaction experience with the resource. The restoration of the website’s operation for public access is planned for the end of 2021. We are confident that this archive will become an important tool for artists and cultural researchers, as well as pique the interest of a broader audience of contemporary art enthusiasts.
