Five years and one month ago, a unique event took place in Odesa, as always before all other “educated” cities of our country: a young, educated businessman Vadym Morokhovsky bought a MUSEUM for the citizens of the city! I bought the legendary collection of Mikhail Knobel not in order to admire it at home, but in order to preserve the artifacts of a disappearing culture and ensure access, study and, simply, the opportunity to look at them for everyone.
As a result of this step, on April 10, 2008, the Museum of Odesa Modern Art was created. And weekdays began…
We, the team of the MoOMA, understood very well that it is impossible to create a full-fledged museum on the basis of a private collection, even a very good one. Time must pass.
And he passed! We carefully listened to the good and bad comments and tried to correct the mistakes.
During these five years, we have returned forgotten or insufficiently mentioned names to Odesa: Dmytro Tronov, David Tikholuz, Anna Zilberman, Vyacheslav Gorbunov. We paid tribute to the legendary Odesans by creating personal halls of Yuri Yehorov, Oleg Sokolov, and Yuri Kovalenko. They started the museification of the almost forgotten Odesa conceptualist school for some time. We support young people in every way.
All this became possible thanks to our friends – members of the Public Council of the MoOMA, our curators, artists who believed in us, as well as those who, completely unselfishly, donate numerous works of art to the Museum.
We hope that MoOMA will grow, its exposition will become more and more interesting, the funds will be bigger, and the actions being held will be brighter. And, most importantly, we hope that all our present and future friends and visitors will be satisfied with all our successes!
We thank you.
MoOMA team!
