Dima Erlikh Bored & Horny

On Friday 5 June at 18:00, the Museum of Odesa Modern Art will open an exhibition by Odesa artist Dima Erlikh Bored & Horny.
The project is conceived as interdisciplinary and includes visuals, sound design, dynamic floral arrangements and a series of performances by Odesa musicians and DJs. The first opening party will feature performances by: Lu Joyce, Potreba and Vybukhivka.

Bored & Horny is the second personal project of Dima Ehrlich, whose creative method is to highlight acute social manifestations by aestheticising and mixing them in his works. His interests include Mannerist painting, David Hockney, underground music, plants and masks. The project poses a rhetorical question: “Are you excited when you are bored?”. Everyone can answer it in their own way, and this is the point.

“In my work, I often use masks and OSB boards. This is a certain interpretation of the analysis of the personality into its components, which is the shortest way to oneself. I combine the contrast of the carefree softness of Hockney’s work with the harsh and emotionally charged subjects of Mannerist religious painting with the technique of deconstructing the surrounding space: fragments of board, plants, light, sound, geometry,” says Dima Ehrlich about his new project.

“The absence of faces behind the multi-coloured masks is an attempt to move away from the obsessive personality, thus enabling the viewer to imagine anyone in the plot of the paintings and installations. Ehrlich’s project is a subjective space addressed to a person, to his or her consciousness and erotic fantasies in times of total boredom. It was important for me to showcase Dima’s artistic practice in the project, which has recently been closely linked to underground music. I think it will be an interesting experience for the Odesa art scene,” says Andriy Siguntsov, the new curator of the MoOMA.

The musical content of the project is curated by Dmytro Melekhov and the Odesa-based project USU, a modern music educational platform. The sound design for the installation was prepared by USU Gael A. and Viktor B. Technical support is provided by Technology Group.
